There are some great golf instructors in northern Michigan but perhaps none as friendly and knowledgeable as Stefan Carlsmith, the head of the Dave Pelz Scoring Game School at The Homestead. Carlsmith has worked for Pelz Golf since 1999 and at The Homestead since 2005. Carlsmith, who grew up on the big island of Hawaii and played golf at the University of Denver, loves what he calls “the infectious buzz” during summer in the Leelanau Peninsula. “When summer hits, people are dying to get outside. That atmosphere is catchy,” he said. Carlsmith’s always-positive personality helps take the edge off trying to master this difficult game.
The first three-day session is June 8-10. They run most summer weekends either Thursday through Saturday or Friday through Sunday until August 23-25. Day clinics begin June 12 and run Tuesday or Wednesday until August 28. Two two-day schools (July 6-7 and August 26-27) are available.
